8/7/2008 £10 million contract for George Downing Construction
George Downing Construction (GDC) has been appointed by Leeds Metropolitan University (LMU) to carry out the £10 million fit-out of its 110,000 sq ft of new-build teaching space.
The project is the largest of its kind that the Liverpool-based company has undertaken since forming as the contracting division of property group Downing in 2000.
The new teaching and office space will house LMU’s faculty of arts and society, forming part of the £50 million Broadcasting Place development on Woodhouse Lane.
When it is completed in September 2009, Broadcasting Place will also feature 240 student residences contained within a 23-storey tower
Ian Orton, director of GDC, said: “Broadcasting Place will help bring new life to this part of the city centre and will play a valuable role in the continuing regeneration of Leeds. We have a wealth of experience in the education sector and are working closely with LMU to create a learning space of the highest standard.”
